Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – August 21, 2009 – Saveology.com™, a consumer comparison-shopping portal focused on lowering the cost of living for households by providing valuable cost savings on known brands and services, continued its efforts to give back by inviting staff to participate in a back to school fundraiser to benefit a local charity, SOS Children’s Village.
SOS Children’s Village, houses up to 75 foster children ranging from 2-19 years old, and features 12 single-family homes, a community center, counseling center and an administration building, all located on an eight acre cul-de-sac in Coconut Creek.
“With the help of our employees, we are pleased with the success of our first back to school fundraiser and with the quantity of supplies we collected for the first day of school,” said Tamar Burton, Director of Public Relations at Saveology.com™. “Our goal was to select a local charity, and Susannah Stiehm suggested SOS Children’s Village, as it was small enough for our company to make a big impact on a select group of children.”
The fundraiser was initiated following news reports of bleak sales for back to school supplies and cut backs for local charities as well as schools. Saveology.com™ launched the August back to school drive which included two bake sales and collection boxes for school supply donations.
The drive was a success and Vickie Walter, Community Relations Manager at SOS Children’s Villages, received over 30 backpacks and bags of school supplies and hand sanitizer to distribute to the children for their first day at school. This was a great initiative and with the help of our Human Resources Department, we found that all who participated were proud to be able to help SOS for this school fundraiser.
